Hernán Campa

Cello

Born in Mexico and raised in Houston, Hernán Campa was exposed to many different types of music at an early age. As soon as he heard an orchestra in person, he dove into cello passionately, rising to principal in the Virtuosi of Houston Youth Chamber Orchestra, participating in many music festivals throughout the nation, and eventually graduating magna cum laude from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music

Hernán received both the first prize of the Louisa Stude Sarofim Composition Contest as well as the Clyde Roller Orchestral Award for superior musicianship while serving as principal cellist and studying composition at the university. Hernán has been teaching music to all ages for over a decade, focusing on cello, though also teaching composition as well as beginner violin, viola, and piano. Previous students have been successful in auditions, received music scholarships, and graded highly in competitions.
