Music Together® Classes

Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music program offering 45 minutes of pure musical fun for you and your child each week. Accredited teaching artists introduce children to the pleasures of making music in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. You’ll receive CDs and songbooks tied to each session’s unique experiences for use at home. The national program’s e-newsletter, web resources, and online store provide additional support for enriching your child’s and your family’s musical growth and enjoyment.

Mixed Age Classes - Outdoors & Indoors

Instructors: Melissa Ludwa, Annie Dastoli, Angie Biehl

Music Together® Mixed Age classes are for children from birth through age 5 and their parent(s) or caregiver. The Music Together® award-winning curriculum is used in a playful, developmentally appropriate environment that utilizes singing, moving, playing instruments, and making music in a fun 45-minute class. This type of music-making is shown to enhance higher-order thinking skills in our children, supporting all learning and providing an opportunity for children to attain basic music competence before learning an instrument.

Please read the following Covid-19 protocols carefully. If none of our in-person options are appropriate for your family, we invite you to consider online learning options.
**For in-person, indoor classes held at CRESCENDO ACADEMY OF MUSIC:  Due to the smaller size of this studio, we are designating this our “vaccinated only” studio. We request that only VACCINATED adults bring a child to class. All children ages 0-5 who are attending must be registered for the class. All children ages 3 and up must wear a mask for class. All participating adults must wear a mask.
For in-person, outdoor classes: Participants will be asked to maintain a distance of 4 to 6 feet apart during class. Masks will not be required during outdoor classes. In case of inclement weather, classes will be held online via Zoom.
If you are not vaccinated or do not wish to share your vaccination status, please choose an outdoor class or an online class option. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO AMEND OUR POLICIES AT A LATER DATE IF CDC OR STATE GUIDELINES REQUIRE IT.

Mixed Age classes are held at Crescendo Academy of Music, Winchell Third Christian Reformed Church (2400 Winchell Ave.), Mrs. O’s Preschool (8025 Moorsbridge Rd.), and Richland Area Community Center (9400 East CD Avenue).

Class Session:

In the Fiddle Song Collection, you’ll learn twenty-five beloved Music Together songs and activities you can recreate at home. During the chant “Sounds of Fall” your child will be mesmerized as the class expresses the sound and movement of leaves falling and birds chirping and flying. In “Old King Cole” you will don the persona of the King, Queen, Prince, Princess, and Baby as you sing, drum, and fiddle together. In addition to your weekly classes, your tuition includes recordings and materials for you to use at home, online access to the songs through the Hello Everybody app, and a family newsletter full of resources and music-making ideas.

Rhythm Kids Outdoors

Instructors: Melissa Ludwa

Rhythm Kids classes are for ages 4-7 and a caregiver. In each 45-minute class, students learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct as they play—and play with!—a variety of musical instruments: West African djembe drums, percussion instruments, and, the most important instruments of all, their voices and their bodies. As your big kid learns to think and create like a musician, they’ll also build musical connections to the global community.

Class Session:

The Alligator Collection includes drumming patterns inspired by “Kakilambe,” a mask-dance song performed annually by the Baga people of Guinea to celebrate life and the growth of crops. We’ll clap, stomp, and drum along to the lively beat of “Let Me Hear You” and do some zydeco line dancing in “Alligator Zydeco.” And “Alligator Slide” will give us a chance to experience a day in the life of an alligator. All 18 selections in this collection have been chosen and arranged specifically to support your child’s music development. Two levels of Rhythm Kids are offered.

Level 1 is a parent-child class (usually for younger children); Level 2 is a child-only class.

Important note: There will be djembe drums for use in class. It is encouraged, but not required, that your child have a djembe drum to use. If you need an appropriate drum, we will have a high-quality djembe drum for purchase, or you may make your own arrangements for a drum.

Music Together Babies

Instructor: Melissa Ludwa

Babies love music and are primed to be music-makers from an early age.

Babies love music. This will come as no surprise to you if you’ve ever soothed your newborn to sleep with a lullaby or bounced him to the beat of your favorite song. But did you know your son or daughter is also a natural musicmaker? It’s true: We are each born equipped to respond to music from a remarkably early age; there is a lot you can do to nurture your new little musician. Making music together from the very beginning will lead to a lifetime of shared musical enjoyment. The Music Together® Babies Class will start you on the path to becoming a musical family. Specifically designed for infants eight months and younger, this 10-week introduction to Music Together allows babies to embrace, enjoy, and express their inborn musicality.
