Music Together® Mixed Age Classes

Instructors: Melissa Ludwa, Angie Biehl, Gabrielle Balanda

Music Together® Mixed Age classes are for children from birth through age 5 and their parent(s) or caregiver. The Music Together® award-winning curriculum is used in a playful, developmentally appropriate environment that utilizes singing, moving, playing instruments, and making music in a fun 45-minute class. This type of music-making is shown to enhance higher-order thinking skills in our children, supporting all learning and providing an opportunity for children to attain basic music competence before learning an instrument.

We reserve the right to amend our policies at a later date if CDC or state guidelines require it.

Mixed Age classes are held at Crescendo Academy of Music (Epic Center, 359 S. Kalamazoo Mall).

Class Session:

The spring  2023 Sea Turtle collection draws inspiration from Malaysia, Lebanon, and other regions of the world, with drumming patterns adapted from Turkish rhythms used for dancing. The sea turtle’s ability to swim as far as 10,000 nautical miles–yet always return home–inspired the song “Turtle Back Home.” “Wau Bulan,” a Malaysian folk song, describes the beauty of the Malaysian traditional kite (wau), with a rounded bottom shaped like a half moon (bulan), as it flies up high in the sky. “Ala Dal’Ona” is a well-known traditional Lebanese dabke, a style of dance typical in Levant countries such as Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. Children will delight in imaginative play, drumming, and dancing with this rich, eclectic collection of songs and chants. Tuition includes our Sea Turtle Collection recording, songbook, and access to drumming videos with Rhythm Kids creator Tom Foote.

Important note: There will be djembe drums used in this class; we will provide instruments for use during class time. It is encouraged, but not required, that your child have a djembe drum to use at home. If you need an appropriate drum, we will have a high-quality djembe drum for purchase, or you may make your own arrangements for a drum.

Music Together® Babies

Instructor: Melissa Ludwa

Babies love music and are primed to be music-makers from an early age.

Babies love music. This will come as no surprise to you if you’ve ever soothed your newborn to sleep with a lullaby or bounced him to the beat of your favorite song. But did you know your son or daughter is also a natural musicmaker? It’s true: We are each born equipped to respond to music from a remarkably early age; there is a lot you can do to nurture your new little musician. Making music together from the very beginning will lead to a lifetime of shared musical enjoyment. The Music Together® Babies Class will start you on the path to becoming a musical family. Specifically designed for infants eight months and younger, this 10-week introduction to Music Together allows babies to embrace, enjoy, and express their inborn musicality.
